Ghana will unveil its Heritage Series banknotes on 12 November 2026.

Meanwhile, something remarkable is already happening with how Ghanaians use money.

In August 2026 alone, mobile money transactions reached GH¢518.8 billion, with over 1 billion transactions recorded, according to the Bank of Ghana.

Think about that. Over a billion transactions in just 31 days.

These numbers tell an important story. Money is increasingly moving digitally, even as physical cash remains an important part of our economy.

Improving the security, durability and design of our banknotes is welcome.

But I believe the bigger opportunity lies in what we do beyond the banknote.

How do we make payments cheaper? How do we move money across borders as easily as we move it within Ghana? How do we build financial infrastructure that works for everyone, not just those already well served by the banking system?

Because ultimately, the future of money isn’t just about what it looks like. It’s about how easily, affordably and securely it moves.

And that’s where I believe our attention and innovation should increasingly be directed.
